Front Row: National
Summer Evenings IV

Virtual event
Watch the event beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 19. It will be available for streaming through 7:30 p.m. Monday, November 23.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Front Row: National virtual concert collection features beautifully shot, full-length HD performance videos from the society’s archive, curated by organization Artistic Directors David Finckel and Wu Han, plus insight from artists who have previously performed at the Center for the Performing Arts.

The series was created to provide a new way for audiences to experience chamber music in a meaningful and innovative way—from the virtual “front row,” in the comfort and safety of listeners’ homes. The Center for the Performing Arts is presenting three of the society’s Summer Evening series performances this fall. Each program features a Baroque work, a classical piece, and a favorite of the Romantic era.

Each piece of the third program, Summer Evenings IV, is introduced by Finckel, Han, and one of the musicians featured in that work. Summer Evenings IV features three full performances:

• Francesco Geminiani’s Sonata in C Major for Cello and Continuo, Op. 5, No. 3, featuring Timothy Eddy, cello; Mihai Marica, cello; and Kenneth Weiss, harpsichord

• Joseph Haydn’s Quartet in F Major for Strings, Op. 50, No. 5, The Dream, featuring Orion String Quartet (Todd Phillips, violin; Daniel Phillips, violin; Steven Tenenbom, viola; and Timothy Eddy, cello)

• Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite for Ensemble, featuring Gloria Chien, piano; Kristin Lee, violin; Chad Hoopes, violin; Arnaud Sussman, violin; Angelo Xiang Yu, violin; Matthew Lipman, viola; Paul Neubauer, viola; David Finckel, cello; Nicholas Canellakis, cello; Anthony Manzo, bass; Ransom Wilson, flute; David Shifrin, clarinet; and Marc Goldberg, bassoon

After the conclusion of the three performances, Finckel and Han will have a conversation with Marica, Daniel Phillips, and Lee.

Finckel and Han previously performed at the Center for the Performing Arts as a duo in 2005, and with violinist Philip Setzer in 2017 and 2018 for the Beethoven Piano Trios. Finckel also performed at Penn State as a member of Emerson String Quartet in 1990, 2002, and 2009.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center is one of eleven constituents of the largest performing arts complex in the world, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts—which includes the New York Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, Lincoln Center Theater, and The Metropolitan Opera. With its home in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, the society is known for the extraordinary quality of its performances and its programming, and for setting the benchmark for chamber music worldwide.
