Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center 'Front Row: National'

Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s
Front Row: National
Summer Evenings III

Virtual event
Watch the event beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 22. It will be available for streaming through 7:30 p.m. Monday, October 26.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Front Row: National virtual concert collection features beautifully shot, full-length HD performance videos from the society’s archive, curated by organization co-Artistic Directors David Finckel and Wu Han, plus insight from artists who have previously performed at the Center for the Performing Arts.

The series was created to provide a new way for audiences to experience chamber music in a meaningful and innovative way—from the virtual “front row,” in the comfort and safety of listeners’ homes. The Center for the Performing Arts will present three of the society’s Summer Evening series performances this fall. Each program will feature a Baroque work, a classical piece, and a favorite of the Romantic era.

Each piece of the second program, Summer Evenings III, will be introduced by Finckel and Han and will feature three full performances:

• Tomaso Albinoni’s Sonata di Concerto a 7 in D Major for Trumpet, Two Violins, Two Violas, Cello, and Continuo with David Washburn, trumpet; Ani Kavafian and Giora Schmidt, violins; Mark Holloway and Richard O’Neill, violas; Mihai Marica, cello; Stéphane Logerot, bass; and Kenneth Weiss, harpsichord.

• Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Quartet in D Major for Flute, Violin, Viola, and Cello, K. 285, with Tara Helen O’Connor, flute; Benjamin Beilman, violin; Richard O’Neill, viola; and Keith Robinson, cello.

• Johannes Brahms’ Trio in C minor for Piano, Violin, and Cello, Op. 101, with Michael Brown, piano; Paul Huang, violin; and Dmitri Atapine, cello.

After each work is performed, Finckel and Han will have a conversation, in turn, with Kavafian, O’Connor, and Huang.

Finckel and Han previously performed at the Center for the Performing Arts as a duo in 2005, and with violinist Philip Setzer in 2017 and 2018 for the Beethoven Piano Trios. Finckel also performed at Penn State as a member of Emerson String Quartet in 1990, 2002, and 2009.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center is one of eleven constituents of the largest performing arts complex in the world, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts—which includes the New York Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, Lincoln Center Theater, and The Metropolitan Opera. With its home in Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, the society is known for the extraordinary quality of its performances and its programming, and for setting the benchmark for chamber music worldwide.
