Faculty Researcher Talks: Rudy Shepherd & Chang Tan

Join faculty researchers, Rudy Shepherd, Associate Professor of Art, and Chang Tan, Assistant Professor of Art History and Asian Studies, for an informal lunch-time talk about their recent projects.

Shepherd will discuss his performance video The Healer, in which "The Healer" visits three holy mountains in the American West, Devil's Tower/Bear's Lodge in Wyoming, the Black Hills of South Dakota, and Mount Shasta in California. These mountains are sources of spiritual power, and the Healer is there to absorb this power to continue his work.

Tan will discuss recent ecological art from China, East, and Southeast Asia. Her project studies how the artists transcend the binary between nature and culture, integrate physical space with social space, and mobilize communal memories as well as imaginations as means of resistance.
