June and July at the Bellefonte Art Museum: "An Imagination Celebration"

Celebrating summer at the Bellefonte Art Museum for Centre County means interactive art for everyone! Visitors are inspired to create art and crafts as well as contribute to community works like string art, abstract line work, origami crane folding and painted canvases, during two months of “An Imagination Celebration”.

An Imagination Celebration will include unique co-creating activities in five galleries throughout the museum. Co-creating is about having fun! Activities are designed to stimulate creativity and offer visitors and families a chance to create together with the help of our volunteer artists. The galleries will be prepared to offer an interactive experience with most of the activities having been inspired by internationally known artists or exhibitions.

Museum Hours: Friday, Saturday & Sunday 12:00-4:30 p.m.

Sieg Gallery – Measuring Our Community
Want to help create an abstract work of art? Visitors will use a black marker to measure a person’s height along the wall. Over time, this will create an abstract piece of art.

Special Exhibitions Gallery I – Life Size Lite Brite and Emoji Quilt
Remember your Light Brite fun? In our gallery, visitors will use a life size lite panel and acrylic pegs to create art. The gallery will also be configured to give visitors the chance to create emoji with liquid chalk on a chalkboard grid.

Special Exhibitions Gallery II – String Art & Abstract Line Art
Visitors will stretch thread between random nails to help create a room of artwork. By following instructions for creating lines on a pre-made grid, visitors will create an abstract piece of art - a linear jungle!

Photography Gallery – Puppets
Our gallery will be turned into a puppet theatre. Visitors will have the materials to create puppets and if they wish, perform with them in our puppet theatre.

Community Gallery – Origami Crane Folding
In Japanese folklore, cranes are ethereal and speak to life itself. To celebrate the legendary importance of Cranes, visitors will fold origami cranes to fill acrylic cylinders. According to Japanese legend, folding 1,000 cranes will bring happiness and good luck.

Pottery Gallery – Canvas Swap
Another chance to collect and create art. Visitors may choose to paint an 8x8 canvas and then swap it for one already completed.

24/7 Display Window – 3D Lego Sculpture
Major LEGO configuration! Visitors will be encouraged to build a 3-dimensional sculpture in our 24/7 Display Window. LEGO creating experts will assist.
