Written by Noel Coward, this comical play focuses on novelist Charles Condomine, who invites an eccentric medium to his house to conduct a séance in order to gather information for his next book. The mystical experience backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his first wife, Elvira. The apparition attempts to disrupt Charles’s marriage to his second wife, Ruth. As the unworldly and worldly personalities of Elvira and Ruth clash, the clairvoyant attempts to undo her mistake.
Cast requirements for the production are as follows: RUTH CONDOMINE (Late 20s-40s) Charles’s second wife who is controlling, conservative, and cold; CHARLES CONDOMINE (30s-40s) A pragmatic and tired author who loves and hates both his wives; ELVIRA (25-40s) Charles’s sexy, cunning, and deceased first wife who only appears to him. ; MADAME ARCATI (40s+) A flamboyant, good-natured psychic with an answer for everything; DOCTOR GEORGE BRADMAN (30s+) The skeptical and sarcastic friend of the Condomines.; VIOLET BRADMAN (30s+) Dr. Bradman’s ditzy, excitable and socially awkward wife; EDITH (20s+) The Condomine’s maid who is innocent, fearful, and always on the run. The ages listed in the character description are general, and the director reserves the right to cast outside this range.
