Penn State Football: Malick Meiga Enters Transfer Portal

A second Penn State wide receiver has entered the transfer portal this week as Malick Meiga announced his departure from the program on Tuesday evening. Meiga, who has two seasons of eligibility remaining, joins fellow wideout KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the portal after the latter announced his plans on Monday afternoon.

Meiga was one of six team captains during the Nittany Lions’ 2023 campaign primarily representing the special teams unit where he saw the most action, although injuries limited his appearances to just seven games last season. In his Penn State career, Meiga finished with nine receptions for 106 yards across three seasons of play.

The redshirt junior from Quebec was not expected to make a significant impact on offense for the Nittany Lions this season and does not mark a substantial loss from the perspective of past or projected production.

“To be honest with you, 99% of the time, what’s good for the individual is good for the team, and vice versa,” Penn State coach James Franklin said this past weekend. “So that’s the good thing that I feel good about as head coach. I can have these conversations and be honest, because the reality is more times than not, maybe not in the short term, maybe not at the time that they want it to be in their schedule in their mind, more times than not it is.”

It remains to be seen if Penn State will add any depth at receiver out of the portal this offseason beyond Ohio State transfer Julian Fleming, who joined the Nittany Lions in January.
