STATE COLLEGE — First- and second-year criminal justice students at South Hills School of Business & Technology’s main campus attended a presentation by graduates of the program. The event was part of the annual Brown Bag Speaker Series organized by the school’s career services team and faculty members.

Students had an opportunity to learn about careers and internship opportunities in law enforcement, corrections and loss prevention, as well as employment opportunities available to them after graduation.

One of the presenters, State Correctional Institution at Rockview corrections officer and South Hills alumnus Josh Brown, spoke about the hiring process and described jobs and special teams at his facility. He also provided insight into what it is like to be a corrections officer working with prisoners.

“We feel that bringing our alumni in to speak to current students is a great way to give them a glimpse into the day-to-day responsibilities of professionals in the field of criminal justice," said South Hills career services coordinator Ellen Spinelli. "There are many types of careers to explore, and we want to allow them to learn about all the possibilities before they start searching for internships and job opportunities.”
