STATE COLLEGE — The State College Choral Society’s third annual Christmas concert will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Grace Lutheran Church, State College.

In lieu of an admission fee, audience members are invited to bring canned or non-perishable food items to the concert to benefit the State College Food Bank. As of last year, audiences had donated 1,900 pounds, and the group is looking forward to breaking the 1-ton mark this Christmas.

“It would not be Christmas without a choir,” said State College Choral Society general manager Tom Penkala.
The concert will feature traditional favorites and an audience carol sing-along. Special guests include the Bellefonte Area High School Chorale, under the direction of Eric Brinser, and brass instrumentalists.

The society, led by music director Dr. Russell Shelley, is one of the largest and most established community arts organizations in Centre County. From its inception as a small singing group performing Bach choruses, the ensemble has grown to more than 100 volunteer members who perform in two to five classical choral concerts, many accompanied by professional instrumentalists or a small orchestra, each performance season.
