Curtin Piano Duo to entertain at TUMC

BELLEFONTE — The Curtin Piano Duo, highly acclaimed concert pianists, will perform a concert of classical piano music on 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Bellefonte, according to a press release.

Hyun Ju Curtin earned her artist diploma in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Eugene and Elizabeth Pridonoff. She has performed concerti, chamber music and solo recitals throughout the United States and in her native Korea.

An avid chamber musician, she was a founding member of the Escalante Piano Trio, and has served on the faculty of Brigham Young University, Utah State University, Soonchun University, Changwon University and Busan Performing Arts School in Korea. She has performed concerti with Changwon Philharmoinc, Mokpo Symphony Orchestra and Masan Symphony Orchestra.

She serves on the board of the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra, with which she appeared as soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 5.

Dr. David Curtin has a doctor of musical arts degree in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he studied with James Tocco. His previous studies were with Lee Luvisi at the University of Louisville and Robert Jordan at SUNY Fredonia.

Curtin has served on the faculty of Lock Haven University since 2004, and has performed throughout the U.S., as well as in Mexico, the UK, Ireland, Korea and China.

The duo has performed at the historic Steinway Hall in New York City.

Locally, with their sons Brian (violin) and Ben (piano), they perform annually at TUMC as part of the Bellefonte Victorian Christmas Concerts at Trinity series.
