STATE COLLEGE — The Jana Marie Foundation’s 2020 Mokita Dialogues continues on Thursday, February 27 with “Exploring Intolerance.” Dr. Seria Chatters, director of equity and inclusivity for the State College Area School District, will lead the discussion.

The event begins at noon at 3 Dots Downtown in State College.

“In the current times, many individuals strive to be culturally competent,” Chatters says. “Cultural competence can be seen as the polar opposite of intolerance. However, when we forego the inner work of cultural competence, we miss our own blind spots and allow intolerance to persist. In this dialogue, we will do a short exercise to learn more about our own identities and discuss how we can find a window into our potential intolerance by learning more about ourselves.” All Mokita Dialogues are free and open to the public. Thanks to the Downtown Improvement District, free parking in the Pugh Street Garage will be offered for those who attend a Mokita Dialogues session. The rest of the 2020 schedule of topics are: March 26: “Women’s Rights” April 23: “Mental Health” May 28: “Bullying and Social Media” June 25: “Living Green” July 23: “Disability” Aug. 27: “Political Climate” Sep. 24: “Suicide” Oct. 22: “Greek Life” Nov. 19: “Gun Sense and Safety” Dec. 10: “Alcohol Use and Abuse” For more information, visit janamariefoundation.org and follow the Jana Marie Foundation on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
