STATE COLLEGE — Local advertising club Central Pennsylvania Creative Professionals, or [CP]2, hosted its fourth Bracket Awards, a competition awarding excellence in advertising, design and marketing created in Central Pennsylvania, May 19 at the Penn State Downtown Theatre Center in State College.

Actor Michael Waldheir emceed the event and presented gold and silver Bracket Awards to 17 local agencies, designers, media outlets, businesses and nonprofits.

“Four award shows in and the story remains the same — our tiny market is producing some unbelievable ideas and executions,” said [CP]2 president Mark D. Dello Stritto.

Best in Show was awarded to Rowland Creative for its API Technologies Event Invite. Two runner-up Judges Awards were given to Penn State Press for its book “Soviet Salvage” and AccuWeather for its BloodMoon BrandStorm event marketing.

Other award winners included Ardor & Forge, Black Sun Photography, ClearWater Conservancy, Christian Baum, Design Approach, Flyland Designs, Impressions, Legal InSites, Loaded Creative, Minitab, MoJo Active, Penn State Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness, State College Magazine, Town&Gown and Trevor Calabro.

[CP]2 also announced the Mid-State Literacy Council was selected as this year’s nonprofit Brand[Aid] recipient. The council provides basic literacy, English as a second language and family literacy services to adults in Centre and Clearfield counties.

“We are thrilled to be working with the talented Brand[Aid] team. Their vision to expand Mid-State Literacy Council’s reach and impact is a generous leap forward,” said council executive director Amy Wilson.

This is the third time the group will host Brand[Aid], having worked with Taproot Kitchen and Housing Transitions in prior years. While the process takes several months of collaboration, Brand[Aid] centers around a work session in June, when dozens of professionals come together for a weekend of brainstorming and designing.

Dello Stritto also announced he would be stepping down as president.

“The 2018 Bracket Awards is bittersweet for me as I pass the president’s proverbial baton to Carol White. Carol has been a board member from the day our organization became legit. Under her leadership, and with the help from the board of directors, [CP]2 will continue to build, foster and advance our professional creative community throughout the region,” he said.

Central Pennsylvania Creative Professionals accepted more than 115 entries and presented 56 awards this year from marketing and design professionals in the area, including advertisements, publications, digital marketing, social media, branding, signage and video. All work had to appear in the media or launch between April 1, 2017, and April 24, 2018, to qualify. The entries were judged in April by a third-party panel of seven experts in Pittsburgh.
