STATE COLLEGE — Sophie Penney, president of State-College-based i5 Fundraising, was honored as Outstanding Fundraising Professional of the Year by the Allegheny Mountains Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, according to a press release.

“It is the chapter’s privilege to recognize the accomplishments and influence that Sophie has had on evolving fundraising professionals,” Patricia Savage, AFP chapter president, said.

“What a gratifying and humbling honor it was to be recognized by stellar peers in fundraising. So many could have received this recognition and I am deeply grateful for having been chosen. The Allegheny Mountains Chapter has my deepest appreciation for this recognition,” Penney said.

Penney became a member of the Allegheny Mountains Chapter in 2009. Since then, she has gone on to become involved with AFP at the international level, including serving as the lead co-chair for the Content Advisory Committee, which oversees the organization’s website and magazine, Advancing Philanthropy.

In addition to Penney, Mr. and Mrs. Elton Crider of Hollidaysburg were honored for their volunteer fund development efforts in the Blair County community throughout many years.

AFP is an international organization that since 1960 has helped to advance and build fundraising into a recognized and respected profession that serves the public good by linking causes and donors. AFP now represented 32,000 fundraisers in more than 240 chapters around the world, and its members represent every conceivable cause and mission. AFP and its members, who are responsible for generating philanthropic support for their organizations, have played a key role in increasing charitable giving from an estimated $9.4 billion in 1960 to over $430 billion today.
