BELLEFONTE — Bellefonte athletic director Deb Moore has confirmed the Bishop Carroll varsity football team has forfeited Friday night’s (Oct. 18) contest with the Red Raiders. The forfeit was announced on the Bellefonte Area School District Sports Facebook page.

According to the post, “Last night, the BASD was informed that their game on Friday will be forfeited. It was to be our senior night and we are going to continue with our plan to recognize our deserving senior members of the football, Cheerleading teams, and Band. Please join us at Rogers Stadium for the celebration starting at 6:30 PM. Free admittance and the concession stand will be open with a limited menu of Hotdogs, fries, and drinks. We will still be doing a food drive for the Bellefonte Food Bank — bring a can good to fill the truck and get a free admission ticket for a future BASD sponsored athletic event. Come out and support these deserving seniors.”

Moore relayed the following message via email to The Centre County Gazette this morning: “The team we were to face forfeited because of low numbers and injuries. We are still going ahead with senior night.”

Also relating to the football team, the Altoona Mirror reported in its Oct. 16 edition Bishop Carroll head coach Sean Billings was investigated for allegedly providing prescription medication to players, however, the investigator said after speaking with players on the team, no evidence was found to support a criminal case.

The Bellefonte varsity football team is currently 6-2 and in the hunt for a Mountain League title.
