STATE COLLEGE — Another year, another record-breaking effort by the Centre County community in support of local nonprofits.

Centre Gives, Centre Foundation's annual 36-hour online giving event, saw community members give 9,503 gifts totaling $1,441,885 between 8 a.m. on May 14 and 8 p.m. on May 15. The total set a new record for the event, which began in 2012 and has broken the record for amount raised in each successive year.

“Our community continues to amaze us with their generosity year after year,” said Molly Kunkel, Centre Foundation executive director.
This year, 175 organizations working in the areas of arts, animals, education, environment, and health and social services, participated in Centre Gives. Since its inception, the event has now raised more than $8.2 million for the local non-profit network.

Centre Gives includes a stretch pool that helps gifts go further, so that the more money organizations raise, the more they can receive from the pool. Centre Foundation has provided a $100,000 stretch pool each year of the event and each of the past three years the Hamer Foundation has doubled the pool to $200,000.

With a fun and friendly competitive nature, participating organizations also sought to win some of the $27,000 in prize money offered during Centre Gives. Prizes of $1,000 were awarded to the five large and five small organizations with the most unique donors during the event, while $500 prizes were awarded to the organizations with the most donors during a given hour.

Other extra earning opportunities included pre-event prizes of $250 for randomly selected organizations that participated in trainings and challenges; $500 prize opportunities for organizations with endowment funds at Centre Foundation; and $250 Last Chance prizes at the end of the event. Doing Good with Wood was randomly selected for a $250 prize among first-time participants in Centre Gives.
