PHILIPSBURG — You’ve likely noticed mounds of dirt being moved along Route 322 at the Moshannon Valley Regional Business Park. That’s because Advanced Powder Products Inc., is expanding.

“(APP), a metal injection molding manufacturer, was approved for a 15-year real estate loan at a 2-percent reset rate through the Moshannon Valley Economic Development Partnership,” a press release from Gov. Tom Wolf’s office reported earlier this month. “The loan will enable the company to construct a new 25,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. The company is expected to retain 65 and create 15 full-time jobs within three years.”

The Centre County Gazette caught up with Nick Eidem, APP’s director of business development, to learn more about the company and what it brings to the community.

CCG: Tell us about your plans for expanding your space and why it’s needed.

Eidem: The metal injection molding industry in the United States is growing at a rate of 5 to 7 percent, and APP is proud to have landed on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing companies for the last four years. With that growth, we are quickly running out of space. The building expansion will support our growth for subsequent years and allows APP to vertically integrate to better serve our customers. The expansion will feature a 25,000-square-foot facility, will house a state-of-the-art quality lab, increased processing capabilities, automation development and a research and development center.

CCG: How is APP is influencing Centre County?

Eidem: At APP our mission is: ‘To be the best and biggest metal injection molding (MIM) company in the U.S.A. and to prove that America can be a leader in modern manufacturing.’ We are driving technology-based manufacturing to better service our customers and continue our growth. This is creating valuable jobs for Philipsburg and surrounding areas. Our growth plans include the hiring of skilled professionals, engineers and technicians, as well as entry-level manufacturing support. We believe in the development of “home-grown” talent, and have plans partner collages, high school and the community to develop that talent.

CCG: What else would you like the community to know about APP?

Eidem: APP is shaping American manufacturing competing as a technology leader. Building the strongest team possible is what gives us the edge we need to serve our customers, team members and drive growth. We are truly building something great.
