Penn State Board of Trustees Meeting This Friday Brings a Chance to Reunite

by on September 18, 2013 6:45 AM

Dear Board of Trustees members:

Knock, knock, knock. It's us ... the JoeBots, the Truthers, or, what I like to call RTP (Rational Thinking People).

We've been trying to get an audience with you for almost two years now and you lightly acquiesced by allowing a small number of us a brief opportunity to speak at your board meetings.

That hasn't been working out so well, though, because the board doesn't seriously consider anything that is addressed by their constituencies.

We've also been writing you letters. Those seem to fall on deaf ears, though. When they are answered, it's with a "Return to Sender" comment. That's bad form, no matter how you look at it.

Our emails also seem to go nowhere, just into some vast corner of the internet that no one checks. That must be the reason why it took so long to get the addresses established.

It seems that during the past few years, a large, vocal majority of Penn State supporters have a specific list of items we'd like to address to you.

So on Friday, during your board of trustees meeting, we'll come to you. We will be outside the Penn Stater starting at 3:30pm, which, according to your agenda, is right in the middle of your standing committee reports. I'm sure, though, that you'll take breaks, during which time we invite you to step outside to meet us, read our signs, and, most importantly, learn that we are not going away.

Hope to see you there!

RTP

Dear JoeBots, Truthers, and RTP,

You've hopefully heard by now -- we're having a protest! The banner flying around Beaver Stadium last weekend was a dead giveaway, but if you missed it, here's what it said—March4Truth.com 9/20 3:30pm at BOT MTG. That's probably all you need to know, but here are some more details:

The March 4 Truth is being organized by Eileen Morgan and Ray Blehar to show the BOT that the PSU alumni, faculty, students, and fans are not moving forward until the truth is known and acknowledged. That sounds like fun, right?

Guest speakers include Franco Harris and Spencer Niles. Anthony Lubrano is also supporting the March 4 Truth and will be in attendance.

To be clear, this is a peaceful protest. Signs are encouraged and I expect spontaneous singing of the Alma Mater to break out sporadically. The March 4 Truth organizers have done their due-diligence to ensure that this protest happens within legal parameters. There are no permits required, but we do need to be respectful of everyone using The Penn Stater and not get in the staff's way.

The march organizers have said that they believe in truth, justice, and due process. They are holding this march because the Penn State administration and board of trustees have disregarded these rights of our university and of Joe Paterno, Tim Curley, Graham Spanier and Gary Schultz. Instead, organizers says the University leadership has disgraced these men and the institution they helped build by perpetuating a false narrative.

In other words -- We're mad as hell, and we're not going to take it anymore.

Organizers are hoping that thousands of Penn Staters will attend to show the BOT how serious we are and that this isn't going away.
