It was a night that I had been looking forward to since the announcement had been made that Will Farrell was coming to the Bryce Jordan Center, or the BJ Center as Will Arnett, the evening’s MC, called the sold-out venue.  The tour was put together to promote Ferrell’s website, funnyordie.com as well as his upcoming movie, Semi Pro.  Farrell served as the host for the evening and turned the stand up performances over to three of the tour’s comedians.

Farrell opened the show wearing a PSU sweatshirt and battling ninjas as the Mortal Combat theme played in the background.  After successfully fending off a hundred or so ninjas, Farrell did a short set of jokes and turned the stage over to Demetri Martin.

I found myself missing every other joke Martin made, due to the fact that I was crying so hard that I had to constantly wipe the tears away from my eyes.  Remember laser pointers?  Martin used a laser pointer to poke fun at the set, himself on the big screen, and a few unsuspecting concession workers.  Later, when an audience member continued to shout at Martin, Martin used the laser to identify and belittle the heckler in front of the sold-out crowd.

Will Ferrell returned to the stage on his Jazzy power scooter to answer questions fielded from the audience by correspondent Andrea Savage.  This was in my opinion, the low point of the evening.  The questions the audience asked were weak and boring, though Savage, Ferrell, and Arnett made the most of what they had to work with.

The second comedian to take the stage was Nick Swardson.  I instantly recognized Swardson as Terry, the gay roller-skating prostitute from Comedy Central’s Reno 911.  Swardson plugged China Wok; having eaten there earlier in the day while declaring our generation will still be listening to rap music even when we are old.

My favorite part of the evening was when Will Ferrell made a special guest appearance as Ron Burgundy.  As Burgundy, Ferrell interviewed Penn State football players Sean Lee and Derek Williams.  Lee and Williams had a hard time controlling their laughter as Ferrell asked them several interesting questions.  “Burgundy” was curious to know if a Brittany Lion was a cross between Brittany Spears and a mountain lion.  He suggested that Joe Paterno has been taking steroids, and he asked if our area is called Happy Valley because the football team plays their home games high on ecstasy.

The third comedian to take the stage was Zach Galifianakis.  Zach’s comedy came in the form of one-liners as he played the piano – a hilarious blend that kept the audience wanting more.  Near the end of his set, Galifianakis stripped off most of his clothes to reveal that he was wearing a red and white dress underneath.  He asked for music and lip- synced Tomorrow from Annie.

The night concluded with the entire cast singing Alicia Key’s song No One.  However, part way through the song, Ferrell made his way off stage to serenade a man sitting in the front row, hugging the uncomfortable man before making his way back to the stage.

Ferrell and his team did not disappoint the sold out crowd at the Bryce Jordan Center.  The team of comedians were very funny and most importantly, no one died!
