KARTHAUS — The annual Apple Butter Fest in Karthaus is right around the corner.

The event is sponsored by the Burnside Township Historical Society and is scheduled for Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Burnside Township Park located at 611 Pine Glen Road, Karthaus.

Visitors attending during the morning can observe while cider and apples are combined to create apple butter. This year, two kettles of apple butter will be made. The apple butter can be purchased by the pint or by the quart.

In addition to the apple butter, the festival will also include a Chinese auction with winners being announced at 3 p.m. Winners must be present to claim their prize. Historical items and artifacts of the township will be displayed and food, drinks and dessert will be available for purchase.

All proceeds from the event will be donated for the building that is under construction. When completed, the building will serve as a township museum for the collection and preservation of township history.

Vendors wanting to set up at the event, free of charge, are encouraged to contact Beth Steffan at [email protected] or by calling (814) 387-4594 to reserve a spot. Steffan should also be contacted for pre-orders of apple butter and for donations for the Chinese auction. Organizers said those wishing to display historical items or share their crafting or musical talent are also encouraged to contact Steffan.
