on June 15, 2006 2:28 PM, Central Pennsylvania’s leading provider of wireless broadband Internet access, is pleased to announce that as of June 1, 2006, the Downtown State College WiFi Mesh Network has been activated and is available for use.  Anyone with wireless access can use the downtown network by looking for the SSIDs – "getwireless" or ""  The current service area covers from Atherton Street to University Drive and from College Avenue to Highland Avenue (A service area map is available online at announced the construction of its downtown WiFi network in early May, with a target completion date of May 31st.  The network was completed on time, and user testing over the past two weeks has confirmed the network's wide-scale accessibility at street level and within downtown buildings. will continue to look for and address cold spots where service may be spotty or unavailable and enhance these areas with repeaters.  Customers who are unable to get service in their location should call to report their issue.   In many cases, the issue can be resolved by installing a more powerful wireless card than the one originally included in the customer's laptop. has wireless access cards available for purchase and/or can provide a list of other retailers where they can be obtained.

Local businesses and residents can take advantage of's high-speed network at home and on the move for as little as $14.95 per month.  Hourly, daily, and weekly rates are also available for occasional users and visitors to the area.  The network supports 802.11b/g connections and will initially offer speeds of up to 25 Mbps.
