Getwireless.net Upgrades Internet Network

on March 07, 2008 4:56 PM

Getwireless.net, Central Pennsylvania’s leading provider of wireless broadband Internet access, recently completed a series of upgrades to its broadband network.  The upgrades tremendously expand the company's bandwidth offerings throughout State College and outlying areas.  By moving from 100 Megabit to Multi-Gigabit architecture, Getwireless.net is now able to offer commercial clients bandwidth of up to 1 Gbps, which equals 1,000 Megabits and as a matter of comparision is approximately 150 times faster than cable modem downloads and more than 600 times faster than cable modem uploads.  Getwireless.net can typically install 1 Gbps service within 30 days at most locations within the State College area.

In addition to the bandwidth upgrade, Getwireless.net also took multiple steps to assure service reliability.  Single-core routers were replaced with redundant multiple core routers, and each network border router now connects to redundant Tier-1 Internet service providers.  All network traffic routes are now fully BGP-enabled, meaning that Getwireless.net has full control over its Internet traffic and can quickly re-route customer Internet traffic around any network trouble spots.  Some Network repairs and upgrades can now also be performed without requiring downtime.

Improved Quality of Service (QoS) enforcement capabilities obtained through the implementation of NetEnforcer® Traffic Management Devices enable Getwireless.net to monitor network traffic and provision bandwidth for voice and data applications on a per customer basis.  The traffic optimization capability, only offered in the Centre Region by Getwireless.net, assures the availability of bandwidth for mission-critical applications.  In addition, Getwireless.net can upgrade a customer’s bandwidth with the flip of a virtual switch, monitor network traffic, and quickly detect and respond to traffic anomalies, network attacks, and security threats.

Daniel Myers, President of Getwireless.net, stated, “Continued advances in technology have made it possible for Getwireless.net to significantly increase our bandwidth throughout the Centre Region, while also increasing reliability and we are pleased to be able to transfer those benefits directly to our customer base.  Getwireless.net is unique in its ability to deliver reasonably priced symmetrical bandwidth to Centre Region businesses.”  Myers continued, “Many businesses, including small- and medium-sized establishments, have high bandwidth demands, and we are the only local ISP that can deliver high-speed symmetrical bandwidth to smaller businesses at affordable prices.  For example, we commonly receive requests for 5Mbps, 10 Mbps and 15Mbps symmetrical bandwidth.  Most ISPs would charge $2,000-$3,000 per month for that service, if they can even deliver it, but Getwireless.net is able to deliver that level of service for less than $500 per month.  And in addition, due to our Quality of Service capabilities, it’s very easy for a business to start out at one level of service and upgrade as its bandwidth demands grow.”

Getwireless.net provides reliable, high-speed Internet service to businesses and residences throughout the Central Pennsylvania region – including more than 100 multi-tenant buildings in State College and most of the office and business parks in the region – via a high-speed network infrastructure.  Through a fixed-point wireless or optical connection, Getwireless.net customers can receive Internet access at speeds greater than those available by a traditional T1 or T3 connection or cable modem, and at a more competitive price.  With little equipment to install, Getwireless.net can activate service to many locations in as few as a few days.  For business’s relying on the Internet and VPN connections for daily operations, Getwireless.net provides a very stable and dependable connection, either as a primary service or as secondary backup connection to existing T1, DSL or cable modem service.  In addition, the company also provides dedicated landline-based broadband services, such as T1 lines and fiber, managed website hosting, server co-location, and DSL.

Getwireless.net’s service area covers five counties in Southwestern and Central Pennsylvania, including the cities and towns of State College, Bellefonte, Spring Mills, Centre Hall, Pennsylvania Furnace, Boalsburg, Rebersburg, Madisonburg, Huntingdon, Lewistown, Mifflin, Altoona, Duncansville, Hollidaysburg, and Bedford.  The company plans to continue its expansion into the region’s rural communities over the next several years.
