$1 Million State Grant Will Support Natural Gas Pipeline Project in Centre Hall

by on January 24, 2018 12:05 AM

A $1 million state grant will increase access to natural gas for businesses and residences in Centre Hall and Potter Township, allowing at least one company to retain its current workforce.

Gov. Tom Wolf, Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman (R-Benner Township) and Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Bellefonte) announced on Thursday that the Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded the grant through its Pipeline Investment Program to the SEDA-COG Natural Gas Cooperative to construct a natural gas point of departure station.

Columbia Gas will commit about $1 million in matching funds to complete the project, which will result in the construction of about 20,000 feet of delivery lines to serve six businesses and 89 residential units.

"The savings and efficiencies resulting from this project will allow Hanover Foods Corporation to retain its current workforce of 150 full-time jobs," a release from Wolf's office said.

Corman said in a separate statement that the grant is an investment in the local economy and will improve quality of life for residents.

“Expanding access of natural gas to this area will help to attract and retain jobs and provide a clean energy option for the residents of these municipalities as well as employers like Hanover Foods,” Senator Corman said.

The project will create a public-private partnership that connects local service to a Dominion Energy transmission line to deliver natural gas to the Centre Hall area and Hanover Foods Corporation.

“This grant will start the process of bringing affordable, domestic and cleaner energy to the residents and employers of rural Centre County,” Benninghoff said. “The goal of this long-desired investment is more jobs for the region and more money in the pockets of hard-working people."
