100 Years of Penn State Homecoming

by on October 04, 2019 10:11 AM

"A Century of Stories" and one Penn State tradition — that's the theme for this year's Penn State Homecoming week.

One hundred years ago Penn State had its first homecoming game against Dartmouth. The generations may have evolved, but the traditions remain. Penn State now has the largest student-run homecoming organization in the country.

"It takes a lot of planning,"Lauren Myers, Homecoming public relations director, said of this year's events. "We've been planning for roughly a year-ish. One of the special things is that it is the 100th year so we really wanted to make it bigger and better."

The homecoming parade begins at 6 p.m. Friday and travels through campus and onto College Avenue. [Parking and traffic info.] Penn State football's homecoming game against Purdue kicks off at noon in Beaver Stadium.

Centre County Report's Fiona Daghir talks with students and alumni about this year's festivities, memories and homecoming tradition.
