A 16-year-old boy from Boalsburg is in critical condition after being struck by a car on Monday night.

State College police said the crash happened at about 9 p.m. when the boy was riding a bicycle on Shingletown Road near Mountain Road and was struck by a Subaru SRX driven by a 21-year-old male from State College.

Police said they do not suspect the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

"The crash occurred after sunset on a road with no street lighting," according to a news release. "The bicycle did not have any required lighting on it at the time of the crash."

The bicyclist was taken by Life Flight helicopter to UPMC-Altoona, where he remained in critical condition as of 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash. State College police were assisted at the scene by Boalsburg Fire Company and Centre Life Link EMS.
