3 New COVID-19 Cases in Centre County; Statewide Total Tops 65,000

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported three new COVID-19 cases in Centre County on Thursday. Since the first was reported on March 20, the county has now had 136 cases of the virus.

Statewide, there were 980 new cases, bringing Pennsylvania's total to 65,392. It was the 11th consecutive day the state had fewer than 1,000 new cases.

Pennsylvania has had 4,869 deaths attributed to COVID-19, with the health department adding 102 new deaths to its count on Thursday.

Centre County has had five COVID-19 deaths, the most recent occurring on May 14. 

The county's overall case counts by zip code are:

16823 (Bellefonte): 39

16801 (State College): 31

16803 (State College): 20

16827 (Boalsburg): 9 

16870 (Port Matilda): 8

16828 (Centre Hall), 16866 (Philipsburg), 16844 (Julian), 16841 (Howard), 16852 (Madisonburg) each have 1-4 cases. Specific numbers are not provided for zip codes with fewer than five cases.

In the past two weeks, Centre County has reported 20 new cases overall.

Among Centre County's bordering counties, Huntingdon now has 221 cases, Union has 61, Mifflin has 57, Clinton has 48, Blair has 44 and Clearfield has 33.

A total of 303,514 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for COVID-19, including 1,697 people in Centre County. Across the state, 1,677 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 357 requiring a ventilator, as of noon on Thursday.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health does not provide data on recovered patients. According to Johns Hopkins University, the United States has had 1,556,749 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 93,606 deaths and 294,312 recoveries.
