A Season of Changes for State High Marching Band

by and on September 06, 2019 10:31 AM

The State College Area High School marching band has been busy moving into its new quarters in the newly renovated high school, one of several changes for the band this year.

According to director Paul Leskowicz, the band also will be wearing new uniforms as they march in a new location, with varsity football games taking place at the South Track Field as Memorial Field undergoes its own renovation this season.

With new lights install at the South Track, the field is also becoming the band's new practice spot, after years of practicing in the north parking lot.

The band will present two different halftime shows over this season — one featuring an Avengers theme, and one featuring the music of Queen.

Senior Emma Neely is this year’s drum major, joined by seniors Will Hurtz and Will Fecko as assistant drum majors. The band includes 160 instrumentalists and 20 members of the band front.

This is Leskowicz’s ninth year as the school’s director of bands. He is assisted by Matt Nelson and Doug Schunk, as well as Khloe Musser as majorette instructor and Shante McDougald as dance team instructor.
