Amendola: Sandusky Expected in Person for Friday's Court Hearing; Online Coverage Planned
by on February 09, 2012 6:10 PM

Jerry Sandusky is expected to appear in person Friday for court proceedings in Bellefonte, his lead attorney, Joseph Amendola, said Thursday evening.

"We've worked out a number of stipulations on the issues with (representatives) from the (state attorney general's office) which should streamline the hearing if the court approves our suggestions," Amendola wrote in an e-mail message to StateCollege.com.

The hearing, scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Centre County Courthouse, will center on two issues in the Sandusky criminal case. One is a request from the prosecution, being led by the state Attorney General Linda Kelly, which wants an out-of-county jury for the matter. Amendola has said he will fight the request.

Separately, the other issue Friday will hinge on bail conditions for Sandusky. Amendola has sought a loosening of those restrictions. In particular, he has said, Sandusky wants the ability to visit and communicate with his grandchildren while he is under house arrest. He also wants to travel with his legal team as it prepares his defense, Amendola has said.

Prosecutors have reported they'll oppose any such bail-condition amendments.

Charged with 52 criminal counts in a child-sexual-abuse case, Sandusky has said he is innocent. A specific trial date hasn't been established at this point.

Sandusky is a former Penn State football coach and the founder of The Second Mile nonprofit.

StateCollege.com will have immediate coverage of Friday's developments in Bellefonte. Reporters Nate Mink and Adam Smeltz will be tweeting from the courtroom; they appear at @MinkNate and @SCNewsDesk, respectively.

The website also plans to carry a blog from Bellefonte, multimedia offerings and a summary of the day's events. Coverage will appear both on the StateCollege.com homepage and through this special-section page.
