According to the Lock Haven Express, the Bellefonte Borough Council passed a $14.9 million budget for 2009.  The budget shows a one-quarter mill tax increase.

Money raised by the tax increase is expected to go toward improving Bellefonte's streets.  The tax increase will raise taxes about $1 per month for a house with an assessed property value of around $46,900.  The tax increase will bring in around $20,000 which will be placed in the general fund and used for streetscape work.

Regarding major projects, the borough will continue to work on a sewer treatment plant upgrade that will take $5 million from the $7.5 million sewer budget to complete.  The water authority is looking to replace some of the leaky old lines running under the streets.  Replacing the pipes would cost the borough between $750,000 and $800,000.

Also, water, sewer, and refuse fees, collectively, will increase by just over $2 a month.  (Read More)
