Sections of two key Bellefonte streets will close about 6 p.m. Monday, borough police Chief Shawn Weaver said.
The closures, necessitated by the preliminary hearing in the Jerry Sandusky child-sexual-abuse case, are expected to remain in effect through Tuesday. Allegheny Street from Bishop Street to High Street will be affected; so will High Street from the Centre County Courthouse (at the Allegheny Street intersection) to Spring Street.
Public parking spots in those areas are expected to be cleared by about 4 p.m. Monday, Weaver said. He said the streets will be used for news-media parking -- primarily large satellite trucks.
The preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and run for much of the day.
"If we would not close these streets, we would have some pretty (major) issues with media trucks parking where they feel they should park," Weaver said. "They have absolutely every right to be in town. However, we're trying to minimize the impact on our community, on the commuters who go through Bellefonte and on pedestrian traffic."
