Centre County Adds 3 COVID-19 Cases; Statewide Total Surpasses 67,000

The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Sunday reported three new cases of COVID-19 in Centre County. The county has now had 146 cases since the first was reported on March 20.

In the past two weeks, Centre County has reported 27 new cases.

Statewide, there were 730 new positives reported on Sunday, bringing Pennsylvania's total to 67,713. It was the 13th consecutive day the state has had fewer than 1,000 new cases.  Among total cases, 65,906 are confirmed and and 1,807 are probable.

Using a calculation "similar to what is being done by several other states," DOH estimates 60 percent — 40,628— of Pennsylvanians with the virus have recovered.

Pennsylvania has had 5,124 deaths attributed to the virus, including 28 added to the count by the health department on Sunday. 

Centre County has had six COVID-19 deaths, according to the department, with the most recent reported on Saturday.

The county's overall case counts by zip code are:

16823 (Bellefonte): 39

16801 (State College): 33

16803 (State College): 23

16827 (Boalsburg): 9 

16870 (Port Matilda): 8

16828 (Centre Hall), 16866 (Philipsburg), 16844 (Julian), 16841 (Howard), 16852 (Madisonburg) each have 1-4 cases. Specific numbers are not provided for zip codes with fewer than five cases.

Among Centre County's bordering counties, Huntingdon now has 228 cases, Mifflin has 58, Union has 53, Clinton has 50, Blair has 46 and Clearfield has 34.

A total of 328,382 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for COVID-19, including 1,879 people in Centre County. Across the state, 1,554 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 336 requiring a ventilator, as of noon on Sunday.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the United States has had 1,626,270 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 97,150 deaths and 361,239 recoveries.
