Centre Region Halloween Parade to Have New Location for 2019

by on October 22, 2019 3:02 PM

Updated Friday, Oct. 25, with new route and parking information.

With ongoing construction at Memorial Field in downtown State College, Centre Region Parks & Recreation's annual Halloween Costume Parade will take place in a different location with a new route for 2019.

Lineup for the parade on Sunday, Oct. 27, will be at 6:30 p.m. in front of the new Delta Program/North Building at the high school north campus on Westerly Parkway. Parking is available in the lot to the right of the building in front of the North Field.

The parade will step off at 7 p.m., going across Westerly Parkway and around the South Building before returning to the North Field, where costume judging will take place and treats will be handed out.

Parking will not be available on the south campus because of the parade route. Participants are encouraged to dress warmly and wear appropriate footwear, as the field may still be wet from rain, which is currently expected to end before the parade.

In previous years, the parade started on Burrowes Street and ended at Memorial Field. The field is undergoing renovations until next summer, necessitating a different place for the 73rd annual parade. State College Borough Council approved the street closings at its Oct. 14 meeting.

“We certainly hope that everyone still plans to attend even though the event is not downtown this year," CRPR Director Pam Salokangas said in a news release. "The positive aspect of this change is that parking may be a bit easier for our participants with this new arrangement. All other aspects of the event such as costume judging,c andy distribution, and music remain the same, so please join us and show off those costumes.”

Prizes will be awarded for the following costume categories:

Tiny Tots (Ages 2 & under)
Hand Made Costumes
Board Games & Video Games
Scariest
Characters (Books, TV & Movies)
Time Periods
Duos & Groups
Animals on Parade
Unique & Original

Costume cash prizes and candy treats are provided by the State College Lions Foundation.

Trick-or-Treat Night in the Centre Region is on Halloween, Oct. 31. Hours are 6-8 p.m. in State College Borough and College, Ferguson, Harris and Patton townships and 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Halfmoon Township.
