Construction Work Will Mean Lane Restrictions For Drivers Heading East on Route 322
The drive from State College to points east may take a bit longer -- for the next couple of years.
PennDot says work crews will be repairing several bridges on Route 22/322 in the Lewistown area which is about 30 miles from State College.
The construction work is slated to begin Monday, March 3 and that will mean lane restrictions -- in both directions -- for the next several months.
The work will include concrete and deck repairs, painting, drainage improvements and guide rail updates along with roadway milling and paving.
A permanent message board will also be added on the westbound side.
Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this job which is expected to cost $14.4 million.
In March, construction crews will start work on traffic crossovers. That phase should be completed sometime in April.
Those crossovers will be in place until late August. After that, work will continue under daylight lane restrictions until the end of October.
But that's not the end of it. Crews will return to finish the job in the spring of 2015 and work will continue through another construction season.
PennDOT says the end result will be worth it with safer travel on bridges that won't need additional repairs for many years.
