Country Artist and Former Penn State Student Headlines 'Jam Before the Jam'

Ahead of Saturday's Happy Valley Jam, Beaver Stadium's first concert, a lineup of country artists will play The Jam Before the Jam on Friday in downtown State College.

Starting at 6:45 p.m. on South Allen Street, three acts will take the stage for a free concert in conjunction with First Friday and as an appetizer for Saturday's event.

The show will be headlined by Ben Gallaher at 8 p.m. A native of Camp Hill, Gallaher attended Penn State for one year before transferring to and graduating from Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.

Gallaher signed a record deal with Sony Music Nashville in 2014 and a publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing in 2015. The 23-year-old is working on his first album and on Friday will play songs from his forthcoming EP.

"Coming back to Pennsylvania to kick off the Blake Shelton weekend is a thrill for me. The energy in Happy Valley is unrivaled," Gallaher said in a release. "I spent many Saturdays in Beaver Stadium at Penn State football games and in Rec Hall at wrestling matches. Nothing compares to the energy, passion, and worldwide 'family' of Penn Staters. As a former student, it's an honor to be part of the first annual Happy Valley Jam experience and play 'The Jam Before the Jam.'"

Before Gallaher takes the stage, Adley Stump will perform the second of three shows in State College this week. She performed a set at Central PA 4thFest on Tuesday, and on Saturday will be the first act to take the stage at Beaver Stadium.

Stump broke out with her appearance on NBC's "The Voice" where she was coached by Happy Valley Jam headliner Blake Shelton. The up-and-comer released an EP, "Like This" in 2015 and had a new single, "Don't Wanna Love Him," released in May.

Opening The Jam Before the Jam will be local band Rodeo Serenade, an American roots music five-piece specializing in honky tonk, Texas swing and rockabilly.
