A patrol car's dashboard camera captured a Spring Township police officer's near head-on collision with an impaired driver last week.

According to the department's Facebook page, a patrol unit entered the parking lot of Uni-Mart, 106 W. College Ave. in Pleasant Gap, on Wednesday after an officer noticed a vehicle without proper placards parked in a handicap spot.

Police then heard squealing tires as the driver of the illegally parked vehicle was attempting to leave the parking lot at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle, a white SUV, was traveling head on toward the patrol car when the driver turned at the last second and struck a gas pump.

The driver, whose name has not yet been released pending charges, allegedly admitted to using methamphetamine and heroin and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver sustained minor injuries, police said.
