Centre County Recorder of Deeds Joseph Davidson will seek the Republican nomination for a sixth term in office this election cycle.

A College Township resident, Davidson was first elected recorder of deeds in 1999. Since then, he said, he has improved efficiency and customer service by updating technology, implementing e-recording and leading the project to develop the county's online public-access information system, WEBIA.

"He will continue to work hard to ensure Centre County resources and tax dollars are protected and used efficiently, while delivering high quality service to Centre County residents," a news release stated.

Davidson is a graduate of State College Area High School and Penn State, where he earned a degree in business administration. He and his wife, Wendy, live near Boalsburg with their son.

The Recorder of Deed's Office records, protects, preserves and reproduces legal documents related to real estate in Centre County. It also acts as official agent for the Real Estate Transfer Tax, collecting and disbursing more than $21 million in 2018. Additionally, it collects certain other fees and taxes and record veterans' military discharge documents.

The primary election is May 21. The first day to circulate and file nomination petitions is Feb. 19.
