DelGrosso's Amusement Park Won't Open This Summer

The closest amusement park to the State College area will not open this summer because of COVID-19 concerns.

DelGrosso's Board of Directors announced on Friday the cancelation of the 2020 summer park season for the company's amusement park and Laguna Splash water park in Tipton, Blair County.

"Many factors played a role in this difficult decision," a statement from the company said. "First and foremost, the safety of our employees and our guests is our number one priority and has been for the past 73 years."

Like Centre County, Blair County is now in the yellow phase of reopening. However, entertainment venues, including amusement parks, are not permitted to open until a county reaches the green phase. Gov. Tom Wolf and state health officials have not yet outlined the criteria for moving to green and there has been no indication that any county will do so soon.

The uncertainty about when the park might be able to open "played a significant role," in the decision not to open DelGrosso Park this summer.

"This delay would only be compounded by social distancing protocols, capacity restrictions and supply chain interruptions," the statement said. "All of these obstacles would make creating a fun, safe and memorable guest experience, like we have done for decades, very difficult."

Season passes for 2020 will be honored for the 2021 season and will receive a $25 food credit. Those who do not wish to transfer their passes to the 2021 season and want a refund should fill out the form on the park website.

All Day Fun Passes purchased for 2020 will be honored during the 2021 season.

Guests who had rented a cabana or scheduled a picnic will be contacted by park staff.

All amusement parks in Pennsylvania have had to delay opening under the state's pandemic restrictions, though most have not yet made a decision to cancel and have said they are still waiting for a go-ahead to resume operation.
