Driver Injured When Car Hits Utility Pole, Triggers Power Outage
A Ferguson Township man is seriously hurt after a one-vehicle crash Tuesday evening.
It happened in the 1900 block of Marengo Road at 6:20 p.m.
Ferguson Township police say 18-year-old Douglas Kauffman was driving at a high rate of speed when he apparently lost control. His vehicle struck a utility pole, splitting it in half.
About 40 nearby residents were left without electricity until utility crews could fix the damaged pole and power lines.
The car came to a stop in a corn field. Kauffman, who lives on Michigan Street, was the only person in the car.
He was taken by ambulance to Altoona Regional Hospital. A hospital spokesperson says Kauffman is in fair condition.
Marengo Road was closed for approximately two hours while officers conducted their investigation.
No charges have been filed but police say the case is still open and officers will make a determination once all the information is in.
