Elton John announced on Wednesday that he will retire from the road after a long farewell tour dubbed "Farewell Yellow Brick Road," and State College will be among the stops.

The Hall of Fame musician will perform at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Bryce Jordan Center. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday,  Feb. 2.

After touring for more than 50 years, his final tour will consist of more than 300 shows over the next three years.

“Performing live fuels me and I’m ecstatic and humbled to continue to play to audiences across the globe,” he said in a news release. “I plan to bring the passion and creativity that has entertained my fans for decades to my final tour. After the tour finishes, I’m very much looking forward to closing off that chapter of my life by saying farewell to life on the road. I need to dedicate more time to raising my children.”

The Jordan Center will be the fourth stop on the tour. Before heading to State College, John will kick things off on Sept. 8 in Allentown followed by performances in Philadelphia and Buffalo.

Tickets start at $49.50 and will be available through Ticketmaster, by phone at  800-745-3000 and in person at Jordan Center ticket outlets.

The 70-year-old singer, pianist and songwriter has become an icon of classic rock and pop music and popular culture over his five decade career, selling more than 300 million albums and scoring more than 50 top 40 hits. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998.

He has previously played at the Jordan Center in 1997, 2002 (with Billy Joel) and 2011
