Evan Myers Files to Run for State College Borough Council
Longtime State College resident, Evan Myers, filed papers today, officially becoming a candidate for State College Borough Council. He'll be running as a democrat. Myers is Chief Operating Officer for AccuWeather. Myers says he's been really involved in the community for a long time, having lived in State College for more than 40-years.
For the past five years Myers has served as chair of the State College Planning Commission. Myers has previously served on the Downtown Vision and Strategic Plan Steering Committee and on the Consolidation Study Commission. He's also been chair of the Democratic Party.
Myers says, "I've really been involved in the community for a long time. State College has been good to me and my family and I want to give back." It's his experience on the planning commission that convinced Myers to run for Borough council. "It's important for citizens voices' to be heard and I want to be sure there is community input in planning and development in State College. Attending so many neighborhood meetings, it's really hit home. People really care about State College and so do I and that's a big motivational factor for me."
Myers also wants to improve the community's relationship with Penn State. "Penn State has gone through difficult times recently and we're right across the street from one another, so we need to work together."
Myers lives on Patterson Street with his wife, Lynn. They have three children including two who are students at State College High School. Evan Myers is the Uncle of Dan Myers, president of Lazerpro Digital Media Group, the parent company of StateCollege.com.
The filing deadlne for the borough council race is this coming tuesday. Three seats are open. That includes seats held by Council President Don Hahn and Councilman Ron Filippelli. The two cannot run again because they've reached the two-term limit. Incumbent Tom Daubert is also running for one of the three vacant seats.
