Flash Flood Watch in Effect Thursday with Heavy Rain Possible

We could be in for some significant rainfall later Thursday and again on Friday.

In fact, the National Weather Service has already issued a Flash Flood Watch for State College and much of Central Pennsylvania.

Tom Kines, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather says, "We've got some showers and thunderstorms to deal with this afternoon and tonight. With this muggy air in place any storm that rolls through can bring some heavy rain."

Kines adds, "It wouldn't be out of the question for some places to get 3/4 to an inch of rain in a short period of time. That's the reason for the flooding concern. ... If you live in a place that tends to flood fairly easily, this might be one of those scenarios where you have to watch out."

The Flash Flood Watch will remain in effect from noon Thursday until midnight.

Kines says Friday could bring more of the same, with additional storms expected to roll across Pennsylvania Friday afternoon. "I wouldn't be surprised if they issue that Flash Flood Watch again tomorrow," says Kines.

Once those storms clear out we should be looking at a pretty good weekend.

"We' ll have a cold front come through tomorrow evening and it will clear out the humidity," says Kines. "There should be a lot of sunshine and temperatures will be where they should be for this time of year, in the upper 70s to the 80s. It will be a great weekend for outdoor activities."
