Former Assistant DA Sloane Sentenced to Seven Years Probation on Drug Charges
Former Centre County Assistant District Attorney Steve Sloane was sentenced this morning to serve seven years probation on charges of distributing marijuana.
Sloane pleaded guilty to three counts of possession with intent to deliver, one count of conspiracy and one count of criminal use of a communication facility in July. Sloane was also disbarred this morning.
Sloan only addressed the court briefly.
"I just want to apologize to the court," Sloan said. "I take full responsibility."
Sloane's charges stem from a package intercepted by the Modesto Police Department in Modesto, Calif. in October 2011. The package was addressed to Sloan and contained two ounces of marijuana, 20 hydrocodone pills, and a receipt given to the person who shipped it.
Text messages were also discovered showing that a man named Steven Ice was sending drugs to Sloane.
Sloane was assistant district attorney during the initial 1998 investigation of former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.
