Former Penn State Linebacker Tim Shaw Announces he has ALS
Penn Stater and recently retired Tennessee Titans linebacker Tim Shaw announced today that he suffers from ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Shaw, who is 30 years old, made his condition public Tuesday by posting a video on the Titans website.
In the video Shaw vows “to stand up and fight with all of you against this disease.” He then raises a bucket of ice water above his head and dumps it over his body, accepting the Ice Bucket Challenge that has spread throughout social media the past few weeks.
After soaking himself with the water, Shaw challenged ”the Tennessee Titans organization, James Franklin and the Penn State football team and my Clarenceville community” to complete the challenge or donate to ALS research.
Shaw played six seasons in the NFL, after being drafted in the fifth round by the Carolina Panthers. Shaw retired last season after being released by the Titans. At Penn State, Shaw was a 2006 academic All-American.
