Four-Star Defensive Back Troy Vincent Flips Commitment from Penn State to NC State

by and on January 17, 2014 11:10 AM

One day after four-star defensive tackle recruit Thomas Holley flipped his commitment from Penn State to Florida, four-star defensive back recruit Troy Vincent, Jr. flipped his commitment from Penn State to NC State, according to Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports.

Vincent verbally committed to Penn State on June 26, 2013. He held offers from 20 schools, including Arkansas, Michigan, Michigan State, NC State, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin, the alma mater of his father, five-time NFL Pro Bowl selection Troy Vincent.

There is no word on why Vincent decommitted, but both of the coaches that recruited him — Larry Johnson and John Butler — are no longer with the program. Butler followed Bill O’Brien to the Houston Texans, while Johnson left the program to take a job as the assistant head coach with Ohio State.

Vincent joins Holley as the second player to walk away from Penn State since O’Brien left for the NFL. Luckily for James Franklin, there are still two defensive backs who are verbally committed to Penn State in its class of 2014 — Marcus Allen and Daquan Worley.

Losing Vincent gives Penn State 20 recruits in its incoming class. Five members of the class have already signed letters of intent and enrolled at the university, while 15 are unable to sign until National Signing Day on February 5.
