Free Obama Event Tickets Find a Paying Market Online

That didn't take long.

By Tuesday night, fewer than 12 hours after Penn State distributed 1,000 free tickets for President Barack Obama's upcoming appearance, some tickets appeared for sale online.

At 11 p.m. Tuesday, the Penn State section of Craig's List included four posts advertising tickets to the event. The listed selling prices ranged from $200 to $400 per ticket.

At the same time, there were nine posts from people seeking tickets to the presidential event. Their listed price points ranged from $1 to $150 a ticket.

It was not immediately clear whether use of transferred tickets will be permitted at Obama's appearance.

The president is scheduled to speak at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at Rec Hall, on the University Park campus. His remarks are expected to center on energy research and innovation.

The bulk of the in-person audience "will be (invited) people who play a direct role in America's ability to win the future through investments in innovation and clean energy, ranging from Innovation Hub partners to Penn State engineering students and faculty," White House spokesman Matt Lehrich wrote in an e-mail message. will have immediate coverage from the event.
