From a State College Church, the Comfort Makers Help People in Need Around the World

Each day, many people pass by Grace Lutheran Church at the corner of South Garner Street and East Beaver Avenue, but may not know about the small group of women there who spend months sewing to items for people in need.

This group of volunteers is known as the Comfort Makers. Members come from all over and work at the church during the group's meetings and from home. In addition to making quilts and other items, the group, church members and the community also make drawstring backpacks to fill with school supplies for children in need.

"It's very gratifying to me that we're able to support children all over the world whose need for education is so great and maybe the family can't afford to buy those supplies," said Ellen Campbell, a retired school teacher and member of the Comfort Makers.

Completed projects go to Lutheran World Relief and from there they are sent out to those in need.
