Halloween may not be until Oct. 31, but the celebration begins early in State College.

“The Children’s Halloween Trail is a non-scary, slow walk through the woods. Costumed tour guides bring the children to various stations run by Penn State students. The kids learn about folklores and myths of Halloween, and the biodiversity of Pennsylvania.”

After walking through the pumpkin-lined trails, the rest of the festival includes pumpkin carving, pumpkin bowling, a pumpkin pie contest, various arts and crafts and live music. Tickets for the Halloween Trail are $5. Children 3 and under are free, but the Halloween trail is recommended for children aged 4 to 10. Attendance to the surrounding festival is free.
Lemont Haunted Granary and Halloween Bash6:30 - 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday
The Haunted Granary is a one-hour event that includes a walk through a maze, frightening "haunt scenes” by Heidi Reese, a performance in the Hallock's famous "Dinky Shed,” two skits, a trip through a haunted bus and a visit to the witches' domain.
After the ghoulish Granary, feel the Halloween delight at the Halloween Bash, which will feature music, food, fog machines and club-style sound and lighting.
“I want everyone, even the people who don’t like the scary part of Halloween, to enjoy the holiday, hear the music, dance a bit. Imagine 200 people clicking their fingers to the Addams Family theme song. It’d be really fun.”

Don’t forget to dress up for the Granary’s first costume contest. Entry costs $1, and the winner will receive a $20 cash prize. There will also be a Scary Short Story Contest. Students grades 6 through 12 are encouraged to enter, and a winner will be chosen from each grade and given a free ticket and shirt. Tickets for the Granary are $8. Tickets for the Bash are $2.
Bellefonte Halloween Parade3 p.m. Saturday
The parade will begin at the Bellefonte Area High School, head down Bishop Street, turn onto Allegheny Street and end at the Courthouse. Dress up and wear your favorite costume, because costume prizes for individuals and groups will be awarded. All participants will receive a gift bag. Everyone is welcome, and admission is free. The Bellefonte Food Bank will be accepting donations.
Halloween party at the State College YMCA4 - 6 p.m. Sunday
Recommended for children ages 3-12, the party will feature a variety of food, games, arts and crafts and a costume parade. Prizes for most unique, most beautiful, cutest and scariest costumes will be awarded. Admission is free for members and $2 for non-members.
Haunted House by the Penn State School of Theatre6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday
Head to the Pavilion Theatre for a ghostly tour and visit “Dead State.” Admission is $3 at the door.
