Happy Valley Improv Partners with State Theatre for Fall Shows

Happy Valley Improv is partnering with the State Theatre to perform two shows a month in the theater's "Attic."

“The State Theatre is a staple of the community here in State College, and we’re thrilled to be able to perform here,” said Happy Valley Improv's James Tierney. “We have such a great relationship with [executive director] Karen [Gregg], [assistant director] Kyrie [Hartzell], and the rest of the staff there, and our patrons love it.”

Shows will take place the first Thursday and third Monday of each month through December.

The Thursday shows will be the flagship Happy Valley Improv show and will feature groups such as Alone in a Church and Zipper Merge.

Monday shows, meanwhile, will be a chance for the community to engage in and watch different improv styles and forms, with some shows supporting local charitable organizations.

“The Monday shows are really our chance to try some new things and expand our offerings,” said Nate Rufo. “We’ll try new forms, put up some shows with only two improvisers, include community members as storytellers and participants, and maybe even do some short-form.”

State Theatre assistant director Kyrie Hartzell said the improv group has been a great addition to the downtown State College venue since it began performing there in 2017.

"It has been an absolute joy collaborating with Happy Valley Improv. We couldn't be more thrilled to have them perform in The Attic twice a month,” Hartzell said. “We have received such positive feedback from patrons regarding their shows. The laughter and energy they create is contagious."
