Health Department Reports 1 New COVID-19 Death, 2 New Cases in Centre County

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported one new COVID-19 death and two new cases of the virus in Centre County on Saturday.

The Centre County Coroner's Office could not be immediately reached for confirmation of the death. According to DOH, the county has had seven deaths attributed to the virus. The last COVID-19 death confirmed by Coroner Scott Sayers, the county's sixth, occurred on May 27.

Deaths among county nursing home residents remained unchanged at six, according to the health department. 

The two new cases brought the county's overall total to 200 since the first was reported on March 20 — 186 confirmed and 14 probable.  A total of 4,028 people in Centre County have tested negative for the virus, an increase of 84 since Friday. 

In the past two weeks, the county has added 33 new cases.

Statewide, 621 new positives were reported on Saturday, increasing Pennsylvania's total to 84,991. A total of 646,780 patients have tested negative for the virus.

An estimated 78 percent of all COVID-19 patients in Pennsylvania — or about 66,293 — have recovered, according to the health department. Across the state, 651 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 118 requiring use of a ventilator.

Pennsylvania has had a total of 6,603 deaths attributed to the virus, including 24 reported on Saturday.

DOH is no longer updating case data by zip code on weekends. As of Friday, Centre County's confirmed cases by zip code were:

16823 (Bellefonte): 42

16801 (State College): 41

16803 (State College): 39

16827 (Boalsburg): 12

16870 (Port Matilda): 9

16841 (Howard): 6

16865 (Pennsylvania Furnace), 16828 (Centre Hall), 16829 (Clarence), 16866 (Philipsburg), 16844 (Julian), 16875 (Spring Mills), 16852 (Madisonburg), 16872 (Rebersburg), 16845 (Karthaus) each have 1-4 confirmed cases. Specific numbers are not provided for zip codes with fewer than five cases. 

Among Centre County's bordering counties, Huntingdon now has 245 total cases, Union has 90, Clinton has 75, Clearfield has 72, Blair has 71 (+2) and Mifflin has 62.
