Health Department Reports 19 COVID-19 Cases, 1 New Death in Centre County

Centre County reported 19 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, it's lowest single-day total since Sept. 8. The county now has a total of 3,564 cases of the virus since the first was confirmed in March.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported one new death attributed to the virus in Centre County. DOH now shows 14 COVID-19 deaths for the county, while the coroner's office has confirmed only nine. DOH reports deaths by county of residency, regardless of where they occur, while the coroner's office reports only deaths that occur within the county. Deputy Coroner Debra Smeal said the coroner's office had no new report of a COVID death on Wednesday. 

The county also had 235 new negative test results, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. A total of 32,419 patients in the county have tested negative for the virus.

According to DOH data, Centre County has seven COVID-19 hospitalizations, down from 12 on Tuesday.

Two new positives were reported among residents of Centre County nursing and personal care homes, which have had a combined total of 60 resident cases and 35 employee cases across 11 facilities.

Statewide, the health department reported 1,276 new positives, increasing Pennsylvania's total to 175,922.

There were 14,636 new negative test results statewide. A total of 2,074,729 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for the virus.

An estimated 80% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation. 

Across Pennsylvania, 749 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 91 requiring use of a ventilator.

The health department reported 27 new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the state's total at 8,411.

Most COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been among patients 65 and older, according to DOH.

Among Pennsylvania's total cases, 169,350 are confirmed and 6,572 are probable. In Centre County, 3,476 are confirmed and 88 are probable.
