Hello Bistro Opening Soon on College Avenue

Hello Bistro plans to open its first State College location next week.

According to a press release, the Pittsburgh area-based fast-casual chain expects to open on Oct. 16 at 126 W. College Ave., the former site of The Diner.

The restaurant, which is owned by the Eat'n Park Hospitality Group, plans to hire 60-70 employees and is accepting applications for a variety of positions.

Created in 2012, Hello Bistro has eight other location — seven in the Pittsburgh area and one in Beachwood, Ohio.

Hello Bistro is known for its large salad bar, burgers, sandwiches and hand-cut fries. Its website describes the restaurant as “Eat’n Park’s sassy cousin.”

Shortly after The Diner closed in the spring of 2018 following nearly 80 years in business, Hello Bistro ownership purchased the building for $1.5 million. Since then it has undergone extensive renovation, with the interior fully gutted and rebuilt, the height of the front of the building raised and the familiar chrome facade of the Diner removed.

It will be the second western Pennsylvania-based chain to open on the block this fall. BRGR opened next door, in the former Citizens Bank building, in September.
