Intense Cold Expected Through Monday Morning, Then More Snow

Hang onto your woolies.

We're getting another blast of arctic air, complete with wind chills that make it feel like it's well below zero.

It's part of an ongoing weather pattern that's bringing us an off-and-on assortment of snow and freezing cold temperatures.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for State College and much of Central Pennsylvania. The advisory will take effect at 1 a.m. and continue until 9 a.m Tuesday.

"We have much colder air blasting in right now," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Frank Strait, late Monday afternoon. "Winds are at 35 miles per hour. The AccuWeather real feel at 5 p.m is close to zero and it looks like it's going to keep going with temperatures dropping into the single digits."

At 5:35 a.m. Tuesday the NWS reported a low temperature of nine degrees with winds at nine mph, making the wind chill four below.

This extreme cold won't last too long. Tuesday's high should be in the mid twenties with some sun. A warm front will move in but that could include another shot of snow. "It will bring us some snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning," says Strait. "I don't expect any significant accumulation. I think it will be less than an inch. It could be flurries but probably enough to produce a few slippery spots Wednesday morning."

Yet another cold front will move through Wednesday night into Thursday morning -- bringing even more precipitation. "There will be more substantial snow. I think it will be an inch or two," says Strait.

Thursday should begin with temperatures in the mid-twenties and will go downhill from there. The winds will pick up with gusts easily reaching 35 mph perhaps as high as 40.

"Thursday looks like it's going to be an unpleasant day," adds Strait.

There are signs of a minor warm up over the weekend, but there's also another chance of snow for Sunday into Monday morning.
